Linux client wants to use yum, navigates web OK.

Hi,
I got to install Janaserver 2 on a WinXP machine which accesses the campus LAN via wireless card. My client is a Fedora 11 Linux machine.
By now, I got the Fedora box to navigate the web, and it is able to send DNS requests so that nslookup works well.

I need it to be able to access its update sites, so that the yum command can be used.
I am stuck here... yum doesn't seem to reach outside, although I would suppose it should use port 80 and 53 for resolving ... both of them I know to work.

Can you point me in the right direction ?

Thanks to the Jana2 German forum I found hints leading to the solution...

Simply declare the following environment variables:

export http_proxy=http://janaserverip:3128
export ftp_proxy=http://janaserverip:3128

The same applies to apt-get in other Linux systems such as Debian, Ubuntu...

I have only ssh access to the Linux box, therefore had to configure the character-based browser (links) to look for the proxy the same way.

Now I'm happy I can get my updates and step forward in putting my Linux box in production in an (almost) isolated LAN.
