Zonealarm (free/pro) ist most often choosen by our german users.
There are not much posibillities to configure it, in the menues, anyway, it doesn't matter if you are a security expert, or a simple user, when you switch it on, it will run... AND PROTECT YOU MUCH BETTER THAN A LOT OF OTHER TOOLS, WHICH HAVE MORE BUTTONS AND CHECKBOXES TO MAKE INDIVIDUAL SETTINGS!
Simple is often the best!
I prefere SYGATE Personal Firewall, it's free for personal use, too.
It has so many features, like "email-notify on alert", the possibility to set master rules, application rules, a packet-logging function etc. ....
Tiny personal Firewall is also often a good choice, a lot of my german friends use it (perhaps because it's one of the rare firewalls also coming in german language;-), but I also know some people, who had a lot of problems with it, mostly because the programm needs a long trainee period, untill it works without asking every 30 seconds, what it should do to port XY...
But after that time, it does a good job!
