Thread: FTP Authentication |
|
|
Hi, I've just had to re-set-up my config following a disk crash - lots of fun!
I have a Linux Server hosting a shared network drive to which I would like to give some users FTP access.
When they type in the address, I expected the browser / ftp-client to ask for a username and/or password but it just goes ahead with an anonymous login. This is not the behaviour I had set-up on my last Jana installation which I find strange as I thought I was using the same settings.
So, my question is: how can I ban anonymous logins to the FTP service and get the users browsers to automatically request a Username and Password?
I'm still really loving Jana Server - there simply is nothing better that covers all the useful stuff at once like your super little suite does. Keep up the good work!

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone knew a decent spam filter that could be implemented easily with Jana. Open source software is preferred for obvious reasons.
Keep up the good work...

Thread: DNS Poisoning |

Guys, can you tell us whether you have patched the DNS poisoning vulnerability discovered by Dan Kaminsky in the current release of Jana (2.5.011)
I have heard much hyperbole about it but I have also had a very good description from Steve Gibson of GRC.com
What can you tell us poor users?

Thank you for looking into this. I'll try what you suggest and look at the MX Server options.

Thanks Peter,
I see what you are saying. But, the cleaning service is not actually run by my ISP. It is another company's service. I think my options are limited to these three...
either:
1.) Mail will need to be sent from my ISP to this cleaning service and then back to my ISP, where I can collect it using POP3
or
2.) Mail will need to be sent (via an MX record Change) to the cleaning service first and then on to my ISP, where I can collect it using POP3
or
3.) mail will need to be sent (via an MX record change) to the mail cleaning service first and the mail cleaner will then push the clean mail to my Jana Server.
As I understand it, the 3rd option is the one they prefer to use as it only requires SMTP and does not require them to store the mail. The first two options are not possible because my ISP is not set up to work with third party companies like that.
My original question was "how can I set up Jana to receive SMTP Push mail from the cleaning service." I hope this is clearer for you.
Many Thanks,
Jason

Hello buggrit,
its a long time ago, where you asked here, but i had a long time to think about your question.
Your provider cleans your mail from Spam and viruses. Thats, what you saying. But why is that forbidding pop3 and forcing SMTP push mail, thats completely different things.
SMTP is used for sending mail, pop or IMAP is used for receiving mail.
You cant get your mail by SMTP, why is the guy telling you misteriys things?
Or did you have a small translating or understanding failure in your configuraton?
I hope, my questions will give you stuff enough, to talk with these interesting Guys.

Ok, I've done that and the Mail.db has reappeared and all mail is being downloaded and deleted normally.
Looks like you've saved the day. Many thanks
One last question. can you suggest an Open Source / freeware AntiVirus scanner for Windows 2000 server which works well with Jana?

Thread: e-mail not deleted error |

I have had over a month of smooth operation with Jana and I am very pleased with it. Unfortunately, yesterday my pop clients started receiving an error from the Jana pop server "-ERR mesages is deleted"
The error causes the pop connection to abort and leaves all collected mail on the server which means my client e-mail in boxes are now filling up with duplicate messages.
I restarted the server and that didn't clear it. I then went to the users folder (/jana2/mail/user1 etc...) and deleted all messages (*.mai) from the folder on the server. This seemed to fix the problem but within an hour it was back again. As far as I can tell, no changes have been made to the server or client settings.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Many Thanks
Jason

I've just set Jana up as my company's mail server and I'm very happy with it collecting pop3 mail and sending out via SMTP. excellent stuff!
I have a supplier with a new service which cleans mail (spam, viruses etc) before it gets to me but he'll only release it to companies that solely use SMTP and not pop3. So I need to set-up Jana to receive SMTP push mail. I know this is probably a bit of a newbie question and I appologise for that, but I just can't get my head around it.
Has any functionality been considered to allow SMTP push? Or if it's already there in Jana and i've just missed it, how can I set it up?
Thanks.

Thread: oversized database? |
|
|
Got a potential bug which is a little confusing.
I am using Jana purely as a Proxy server and I am very happy with the reduction in bandwidth it produces. However I have found that some of my clients experience intermittent problems with cached images. It looks as though the images get mixed up so a page will be rendered on the affected client machine with incorrect images in the wrong place. It generally happens when the Cache is reching the 10,000Mb limit that I set. Does your database which links calls to the cached files, have an upper size limit?
The problem sometimes goes away if I restart the server. Can you suggest anything else?
Thanks
JB
